Day 9 – 65 miles to Kingsport, TN

After yesterday’s long century, we got to sleep in a bit – wake-up call at 6:30 and breakfast at 7. “Sleep in.”

Teams were “The Office” themed. Holden, Jeff, Steph C, Shannon, and I were Team Kevin Malone. I don’t watch that show so I have no idea who that is.

We passed so many farms, seeing cows and horses and numerous attack dogs. We lost Shannon and Holden due to injury and (another) broken spoke.

So it was just Steph, Jeff, and I. We passed through Abingdon, where one of my best friends is on tour, working at the Barter Theatre. It was amazing to see him – a familiar face from Philly and a great friend. We caught up on the side of the road for about 4 minutes and then I had to take off. Tennessee awaits!

We were slightly disappointed when we unknowingly crossed the border with no state sign to be seen. So anticlimactic. But Tennessee has beautiful hills, rivers, and streams, so I guess it’s fine.

We arrived at our host, showered, and had a great dinner. Now for a team meeting!
